The Blenders

Steve Irwin Day -November 2007

Steve Irwin Day 2007

The Blenders were privileged to be asked to participate in the Steve Irwin Day celebrations on the 15th November 2007 and once again donned khaki to become the ‘Crikey Chorus’. With the memory of singing at Steve’s memorial the year before still fresh, the chorus was delighted to once again entertain the Crocoseum audience.

The Blenders began the day by singing for the audience that was waiting to view the unveiling of the Irwin family statue with crowd pleasers including ‘Ob La Di’ and ‘Shout’.

In a packed Crocoseum they presented a selection of patriotic songs including ‘I Am Australian’ and crowd favourite ‘True Blue’, evoking memories of Steve’s Memorial Service the previous year where they provided backing vocal support to John Williamson. At that time - dressed as Australia Zoo staff, many mistook them for actual staff and did not realize that they were the Champion Australian Barbershop chorus (now for the 8th consecutive time). They continued on and presented the audience with renditions of ‘My Country’, 'Road to Gundagai', ‘Home Among the Gum Trees’ and more, before leaving the stage to Olivia Newton-John.

During the course of the afternoon the Blenders wandered throughout the zoo entertaining visitors at the elephant and tiger enclosures.

The Blenders were honoured and proud to be part of the first Steve Irwin Day celebrations.
